SPRINGER QUARTIER
HAMBURG

The (newly opened) Springer Quartier combines the modernisation of the listed Springer high-rise with the creation of a modern new building complex in Hamburg between Kaiser-Wilhelm-Strasse and Fuhlentwiete.

This involved the complete illumination of the building and achieving a connection between the individual elements of the newly created structures through this very illumination. In particular, the alleyway created by the architectural design was intended to invite guests to stay in the outdoor dining areas in the evening. Here the aim was to accentuate the pedestrian boulevard with as few elements as possible. In close cooperation with Schlotfeldt Licht and gmp Architekten, RSL realised 8 ring luminaires in diameters of 2000mm,3500mm and 4000mm, which are suspended from a great height from the two buildings.

The downlights set back in the rings result in a completely glare-free but very high-contour illumination of the alley. To honour the special character of the Hanseatic city, the ring luminaires bear quotations from famous Hamburg personalities. The individual letters were cut out of the luminaire ring and applied to the sides of the rings.
